Airstream International Group places two Bombardier DHC-8-Q400s with Horizon Air

Airstream International Group has arranged the sale of two Bombardier DHC-8-Q400s on behalf of China’s HNA Group, parent company of Chang’an Airlines and Hainan Airlines, to Horizon Air.

The aircraft, serial numbers 4006 & 4039, were operated until immediately prior to the Chinese New Year by Chang’an Airlines. Hainan Airlines continues to expand rapidly and is now China’s fourth largest carrier. This disposal confirms its all-jet policy and allows for further expansion of the B737 fleet.

The aircraft join Horizon Air’s growing fleet of Q400s following their recent order for 12 new aircraft from Bombardier. This acquisition enables Horizon Air to begin nonstop flights in August between Los Angeles and Redmond/Bend, Oregon. Airstream acted as exclusive remarketing agent for the seller.

Airstream specialises in the provision of aircraft remarketing, financing and advisory services to the aviation industry. This transaction represents a particular coup for Airstream as it is among the first sales of western manufactured aircraft operated in China to be returned to an operator in the USA.

This is the second significant sale of regional aircraft in as many weeks in what has been a very successful first quarter for Airstream. The location of both the buyer and the seller shows Airstream’s broadening reach and its developing links with the buoyant Chinese market.

Airstream contributes to ERA Regional International

Airstream International Group limited was recently asked to contribute to the “Airline and Aircraft Finance” section of the Journal of the European Regions Airline Association. The article was published in the December issue of Regional International. The article describes how high quality advisors can add considerable value to regional airline customers, not only with regard to aircraft finance, but also with regard to acquisition and disposal of principally used aircraft and short-term fleet capacity needs. Such services can, amongst other things, save valuable senior management time, provide independent third party expertise only when it is needed and which is not always available internally. This type of support can reduce costs for regional airlines vastly in excess of the expense.

Airstream has been an active member of the ERA for several years.

DHC 8Q 300 acquired by Tobago Express

Airstream International Group has arranged the acquisition of a DHC 8Q 314 aircraft by Tobago Express on behalf of Austrian Airlines subsidiary Rheintalflug. The 1997 manufactured aircraft (SN 487) was formerly operated on routes within Germany under a Team Lufthansa franchise agreement. Since the purchase of Rheintalflug by Austrian Airlines, the airline is focusing on its regional jet services operated by ERJ 145 aircraft.

The aircraft was accepted by Tobago Express on 7th March 2002 and is due to enter service on the airline's principal route between Tobago and Piarco International Airport in Trinidad at the end of this month. Tobago Express is a new carrier formed in 2001 and is part owned by BWIA West Indies Airways. The airline was formed principally to service the essential air bridge between the islands of Trinidad and Tobago after the demise of the previous operator and this aircraft is the second to enter its fleet.
